| On
our way to Waterbury, we found this great covered bridge on the backroads
of Stowe, VT.

In addition to being a quaint little Vermont town, Waterbury is home to
Ben & Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream. They have a factory here that produces
up to 180,000 pints a day. Ben and Jerry once went on the road in this Cowmobile
to create and deliver ice cream around the country. |
| It
seems that everything in Ben-n-Jerry-land is labeled in their crazy typeface,
including the milk and cream tanks out back. They only use fresh, non-rBGH
milk from local dairy farms (of course).

Eric likes Phish Food, so he tried a Phish Stick (Phish Food in the shape
of a fish, clever). As soon as he opened the box, it started to rain--at
least the fish seemed happy to be wet! |
In
the backyard of the factory is the Flavor Graveyard, where they have flavors
like "Economic Crunch" (which they scooped free for stock brokers
on Wall Street after Black Tuesday) and other flavors that didn't quite
make it.
According to the tour guide, Ben gives final approval to every flavor before
it hits the shelves, and it takes between 3 and 300 different attempts at
each flavor to get it right.
